History

The 100th or “Century” division fought across Alsace-Lorraine to the Rhineland during World War II. During the German Nordwind counteroffensive in January 1945, the 100th was crucial in breaking the attack by repulsing three German divisions. Division’s capture of the ancient fortified French city of Bitche, which until then had never been conquered by an attacking army, also gave the Centurymen a new moniker “The Sons of Bitche”. In 163 days of combat between October 1944 and April 1945, the 100th Division distinguished itself to their enemies as a, “crack assault division with daring and flexible leadership”.
