Father and son, liberated and liberator, meet for the first time since 1925, at Cannes, France. Plainly showing his emotion, M. Daon (left), father of Pfc. Geo Daon, greets his son as the latter succeeds in tracing his parents after helping his Uncle Sam clean up the Germans at (last stop) Loch, Bavaria. George left France for the States in 1925, married there and was drafted in the U.S. Army. His address is 314 E. 56th St., New York City; his outfit the 374th Field Artillery, 100th Infantry Division. He was enabled to find his family via a furlough to the USRRA at nearby Nice. The newlyweds enjoy the dinner held for them after the wedding ceremony, at the Polish Red Cross in Datzingen, Germany. T/Sgt. Victor Butfilowski (Right Center), Headquarters Battery, 100th Infantry Division Artillery, of Elizabeth, New Jersey and Barbara Kleszczynska (Left Center), of Lodz, Poland, who as a student of medicine in Poland, has completed all but two months work toward her degree as M.D., were married at St. Leonard’s Catholic Church in Datzingen by Chaplain Capt. Thaddeus J. Koszarek, Chaplains Corps, 100th Infantry Division, who officiated at the nuptial mass. The witnesses were best man, T/5 Charles Santa, Martin’s Ferry, Ohio, of Headquarters Battery, 100th Infantry Division Artillery, and maid of honor, Miss Zenobue Pyzak, of Lodz, Poland. After making one-man attacks on two enemy machine gun nests which resulted in their destruction, he demanded the surrender of the remaining Germans in a farmhouse by throwing rocks at a window. Twelve enemy, overcome by his relentless assault and confused by his unorthodox methods, surrendered to the lone American. October 24, 1945.
